The Centre of Excellence Jean Monnet on Just Fossil Fuel Transition (JFFT) undertakes educational initiatives to disseminate knowledge about climate justice and the fair socio-economic and energy transition. This includes promoting the non-proliferation and global phase-out of fossil fuels through fully accessible Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), such as “Climate Change and Adaptation on Ecosystems and Societies (24 hours) ” and a dedicated university course.
The MOOC will be optimized to provide comprehensive learning opportunities for a global audience and to maximize accessibility for individuals with internet connectivity. These courses will feature videos and educational materials addressing practical aspects of climate justice, human rights, and case studies valued for their cultural and ecological significance. Through the integration of diverse didactic resources (e.g., videos and slides), participants will enhance their understanding of the fundamental and technical aspects of climate change, the just transition, and the phase-out of fossil fuels. This knowledge will empower them to critically engage with concepts such as unburnable carbon, climate justice, and human rights. Furthermore, it will enable them to contribute meaningfully to decision-making processes aimed at achieving the European Union’s 2050 climate targets and addressing the ongoing climate crisis.
