The Climate Action Empowerment Programme, known officially as Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE), is a key initiative under Article 6 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Article 12 of the Paris Agreement. It promotes education, public awareness, and capacity-building as tools to combat climate change. ACE empowers individuals and organizations to take informed action by fostering knowledge, skills, and participation. The ACE is based on six interdependent priority areas:
- Education – Integrating climate change education into curricula at all levels to develop knowledge and skills for climate action;
- Training – Providing technical training and skill development for green jobs and sustainable practices;
- Public Awareness – Enhancing awareness through media, outreach campaigns, and partnerships to ensure communities understand the urgency of climate change;
- Public Participation – Encouraging community engagement and participatory decision-making processes at the local and national levels;
- Public Access to Information – Ensuring transparent and accessible climate-related information to enable informed participation;
- International Cooperation – Promoting cross-border collaboration to share resources, experiences, and best practices.
ACE empowers individuals, communities, and countries to engage actively in climate action by fostering knowledge, skills, and inclusive participation. It represents a cornerstone of achieving global climate goals, particularly those outlined in the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
