From Campus to Amazon: university students at COP30

The initiative “From Campus to Amazon: university students at COP30” is promoting by Viração&Jangada association, in collaboration with the Provincial Agency for Environmental Protection of the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Italian Climate Network and the Young Ambassadors Society and in partnership with numerous organisations including the Centre of Excellence Jean Monnet on Just Fossil Fuel Transitions.
The aim of this initiative is allowing students from Italian universities to learn about international climate diplomacy issues. Speficially, it is a training course in Italian to explore the global climate crisis and the crucial role of civil society in UN climate negotiations.

The course includes:

  • Two online lessions, each of an hour and a half, on Monday 27 October 2025 at 6 p.m. and Monday 3 November 2025 at 6 p.m.;
  • The possibility to discuss and reflect with a a delegation of Italian experts and young people attending COP30 to learn about the latest developments at the Climate Conference and answer to questions in real time

Below the programme of the training

MODULE 1 (27th October from 18.00)From Rio 92 to COP30: The UNFCCC, its governance structure and the background to the UN climate negotiations

Objectives: Understanding the structure and functioning of the UNFCCC, who the actors in the negotiations are (parties, observers, negotiating groups), the role of civil society, the influence of lobbies and corporate interests

Speakers:

Eleonora Cogo (Expert in climate policy. She collaborates with ECCO (Italian think tank for the climate). As a former member of the Italian delegation, she has participated in the past in UN negotiations on climate change)

MODULE 2 (03rd November from 18.00)The priority issues of COP30 and the Italian government’s political agenda

Objectives: Understanding Italy’s participation and the central themes of COP30, its mechanisms and implications

Elisa Calliari (Researcher at the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC) since 2011)

LIVE CONFERENCE FROM COP30 (17th November from 18.00)

The last event of the intiative will offer the opportunity to actively interact with experts and young participants on site and listen to their accounts of what is happening at COP30, as well as the stories of the conference participants.
